Make A Wish Started With One Little Boy
The make a wish foundation, gives terminally ill children a chance to make a life wish come true.
The Make a Wish Foundation started with the wish of one little boy.
7 year-old Christopher James Greicius, was suffering from leukemia but he had a dream, to one day become a police officer. Because of the terminal diagnoses, Chris’s dream didn’t have much hope of coming true. Chris had become friends with a U.S. Customs Officer Tommy Austin and after learning of the boy’s wish Austin promised Chris a ride in a police helicopter. With the worsening of Chris’s health his friend Austin planned a special day for the boy.
April 29Th 1980 would be a day that would live in Chris’s mind forever; he got to fly in a helicopter that day with his Mother and a few friends. He also received an official custom made uniform as well and completed a motorcycle test, (on a battery operated one) to earn his wings.
As Chris weakened, he asked to have his hospital room arranged so that he could always see his police uniform.
His last day on earth was on May 3rd.
Since that day, 80,000. wishes have been granted.
